Coquilles de noeuds (Knotshells) is a series of knots that were initially made out of woven or knitted samples and discarded threads that were found in a fiber recycling bin in the textile department at la Maison des métiers d’art in Québec City where I was an artist in residence over the winter 2011. These fabric knots were then dipped in porcelain, cut in half and fired to reveal the imprinted knots on the porcelain shells.
Porcelain, birch wood, each dyptich 8.5 x 16 x 4 inches.
